Wide Gap Between Winning Weights And The Average

STOCKTON LAKE - Although clear skies and calm winds ruled the morning, conditions quickly changed to partly cloudy, high winds, and a very hot day for the fifth stop of the Solo Pro Series at Crab Tree Cove. These tough conditions proved to be a challenge for the majority of the anglers, but a few were able to beat the odds and weigh in very impressive bags.

Taking first place, with a hefty weight of 21.05 lbs, was Jeremy Lawer. “The fish didn’t have to be in the (brush/rock) piles, as long as they were on the tip (of long tapering points) where it rolled off”, said Jeremy. Fishing mainly the Little and Big Sac river arms, as well as Suns Creek, he looked specifically for long tapering points. Using a large plum worm he fished pile after pile on those points in 10 to 14 feet deep. By 10 o’clock he had his weight caught and never culled after that.

Second place was Chris Hughes with a weight of 16.53 lbs. By pre-fishing this last week Chris stated that he found the fish on, “a mile long stretch in lay downs and bushes that were overhanging the water”. He fished in Sun's creek flipping bushes all day with a texas rigged green pumpkin worm and a custom green, brown, and black jig.

Brian Thompson took third place with a weight of 13.19 lbs. Fishing primarily in the Big Sac arm, in the morning he flipped bushes, but as the day got hotter he moved deep looking for piles that he has found in 15 to 20 feet of water. He used his own custom 5/8th oz PB&J jig, “feeling lucky he was able to find the five keeper bites” he did.

Also congratulations to Jim Lovan for winning big bass weighing in at 6.60 lbs.
